Saracens v Harlequins Preview

One of the biggest events in the Saracens calendar returns as the Men in Black face Harlequins at London Stadium on Saturday.

In years past Wembley has been the home of the annual derby but this year will see Sarries host their London rivals in a new venue to draw in fans from a different area.

Saracens are currently third in the table after consecutive defeats to Leicester Tigers and table-toppers Exeter Chiefs. Still not assured of a top four spot, Saracens will look to take advantage of a run of games against those who are languishing in the bottom half of the table to ensure the hunt for silverware remains alive.

Ninth-placed Harlequins, who broke their four-match losing streak with a spirited win against Bath, have had a tough season but will look to recreate past victories against Saracens in the upcoming match.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall has stated that with many of their key players missing due to Six Nations commitments or injuries, the lack of experience on the field has had an effect on the quality of their game.

He said; “We were lacking in a bit of composure at the crucial times, a bit frantic, but that's what you get with some of the inexperience that we ended up having on the field”.

With many of Saracens international players in need of rest after the demands of the Six Nations and the Lions tour, McCall may keep his central players away from the action for now but will be looking to incorporate them sooner rather than later in a bid to ensure his team’s place in the top four.

Harlequins have come away victorious in the last two meetings with Saracens and Billy Vunipola, who is still recovering from a broken arm, has spoken about the pressure his side feels in their games against Quins in a matchup he feels the Men in Black should come out on top.

He said; “That’s why Quins are always a tough opponent for us as they always manage to beat us which is what makes next weekend such a tasty encounter.”
